[WP] Your tendency to get inspired by books is pretty intense. When a friend loans you Sun Tzu's Art of War things start to pop off real quick. Was paying a few "applicants" to spy on your immediate supervisor necessary? Of course it was. A ruthless, world conquering empire has to start somewhere.

[WP] Instead of trying to commit a perfect crime. A group of criminal will commit a crime and intentionally get caught but they will mess up with the evidence in advance to make the judge doubt in the evidence as it appeared like the defendant is being framed and get a not guilty verdict.
